Sandra's Specialties
A home-cooked food delivery service

Celebrating family through home cooking

Sandra’s Specialties is a cooking service that offers and delivers food trays directly from their door-step to yours.

With a lifelong love for food, Ako Sandra- as she is endearingly called by friends and family- started Sandra’s Specialties after her honeymoon trip to Hong Kong in 1994. Since then she has developed her own recipes, inspired by some of the dishes she herself fell in love with- and now, her Chili Curry Crabs have become their home’s best seller.

From the beginning, Sandra’s Specialties has always centered itself not only on providing its customers with good quality food, but more importantly on the connections that are built through and around it. Ako Sandra maintains a close personal relationship with all her suppliers. And when asked what Sandra’s Specialties stands for, she said that her only hope is that she’s able to promote family and togetherness through the food that she delivers to homes across the metro.

To ensure that both photo and video outputs maintain and encapsulate the same essence of gathering and family as Ako Sandra’s food, filming took place in the warmth of her home kitchen. The team had only the morning of the shoot to scout and do an ocular of the entire space, during which Ako’s family was kind enough to show the members around both their kitchens. Before anything however, the day really began with a meal shared with the team and Ako’s family, giving the team a bigger and better sense of just exactly what their food is supposed to symbolize.

The team opted to film from the side directly opposing the kitchen island, framing Ako Sandra at the center of her kitchen set-up with an expansive window looking out into her yard as the backdrop.

We maintained that the colors remained vibrant and warm, and would provide viewers with the same degree of coziness that Ako and her family were able to provide us in her home. As unfortunate as it was that the shoot landed on a gloomy day without much sunlight, the team resolved this by placing one Amaran 300C out in the yard that streams light into the kitchen through the glass window.

Shots were planned with the intent of showing Ako Sandra’s process, and giving her customers the assurance that her food doesn’t have any additives and preservatives just as she promotes. With this there was a specific emphasis on capturing ingredient prep.

The Final Frame: A Family Ensemble

Continuing with her intent to bring families together through good food and company, it was imperative that we had a frame of all her best sellers laid out on her dining table in an ensemble, and it only felt fitting as well that we included her own family in the shot. As one of the closing frames of the video, and appropriately the last frame we shot that day as well, we asked her children and niece to be the ones to bring certain plates into frame. Something so simple, and completely right.
